Hip Hop with a positive message

DEZAL

Born Devron D. Mitchell, Dezal is a powerful songwriter/singer/rapper fueled by God. Dezal, was born and raised in the inner city of Minneapolis Minnesota, in which he had no positive role models. However, he overcame his situation when at the age of 19 Dezal was called by God and dedicated himself to God. Being a newborn Christian from the streets Dezal's message for the people, is powerful and life changing.

Growing up the youngest of 3 children in the inner city Minneapolis, Minnesota Dezal learned how to survive with less and use sources around him to put his thoughts on a note pad and then translate those now written thoughts into the form of music. He taught himself how to play the piano thus opening the door allowing him to be able to produce his own tracks. Prior to his rebirth in Christ, Dezal was a part of a rap group called "Da Wolf Pack," in which they would perform throughout the twin cities. However, after his rebirth Dezal felt a tugging on his spirit and began to fill uncomfortable performing in club and drew closer to God to see how he could now minister to others.

In 2005 God allowed Dezal to step out on his own and he started working on a solo gospel hip-hop project, however that was just the beginning of his process and his path. Currently, Dezal is in the process of completing his that solo project entitled "Redemption" which Is scheduled for release fall of 2009. With his upcoming single "A Ghetto Star," follow everything is gonna be alright. This album is going to bless and capture those whom once closed their hearts. Soul....Full of Music

PJ Morton

"Just stay true to what you believe. You have to believe before anyone else will"

New Orleans native PJ Morton has been loving music since the beginning of his existence and cannot remember a time when music was not around him. He attributes his musical element to his father Bishop Paul Morton Sr. Although music runs through his veins, it was when he heard the melodic sounds of Stevie Wonders “I never dreamed you’d leave in summer,” that made him want to pursue music all the way.

PJ Morton has won Grammy's, Stellar's and Dove awards for his songs and production, he is an around artist; he plays, writes, produces, sings and gives a great performance. When he is not performing or writing he enjoys listening to the Beatles, James Taylor, Stevie Wonder and some of today’s current music. His eclectic taste in music allows for him to reciprocate the same in the songs he sings, writes and produces. When reflecting back on the many songs he has written and produced the song "two hearts" is his favorite. Under normal circumstances "I would never have come up with the song," as everything surrounding the song is different; the feel, the tempo, the concept, everything."

PJ Morton's first desire is to please God in everything he does. His gift of music allows him the ability to touch people through song, as we all “relate through song.” When conceptualizing a song his goal is to be honest and give the listeners a real story. We all can relate to someone who is talking about love and life as these are the “things, we as humans go through.” Yet, with this great gift of expression through song, PJ had more inside that he had to share. This however, could not be told in a 3-4min song, but it had to be told. Therefore, PJ Morton decided to write a book, entitle “Why can’t I sing about love,” which, he is trying to open the eyes of the people “to realize how big God is.” The book “WhyCan’t I Sing about Love" deals with the age-old argument of sacred vs. non-sacred music. Many of the doctrines we as Christians are taught have been man-made and not Biblically based. A number of writers, producers, artists, and musicians have been shunned from the church for doing music outside of gospel. This book will show that love songs are not only inspired by God, but are in fact Biblical!"

PJ Morton has been busy at work as he is also currently working on his new album set to release on Feb 9th 2010. You can get updates for the new cd on his website
http://www.pjmortononline.com/.
PJ Morton is a "true artist, who puts his everything into the music he creates" and it is truly great music. With every thought and every concept, for PJ music his therapy, as it allows him to "get things off his chest, heal and just the ability to express himself." Before he can pass his music along to the masses he has to enjoy his music first. This passion for what he does reciprocates into good music for our mind, body and soul as it is truly therapy.

Beautiful Music

“Never Can say goodbye” by Jackson 5 and “Send on your Love” by Stevie Wonder are the two songs that made this young made want to pursue this music all the Way.

With every strum of his guitar and note that he sings, his intent is to make beautiful music, music that will allow people to forget their worries for a few moments. Marcus passion is creating music from beginning to end he can’t help it, it’s in his blood. Born to a mother who is an “amazing vocalist” and a father who’s an “amazing musician,” Marcus eats, and sleeps music.

He takes the events of the world, the stories of everyday people and infuses those experiences into song, thus creating the element of music and the human experience the end result is a sound that captures the heart of the people. Upon listening to some of Marcus’s music you can hear some of his influences; Coltrane and Sarah Vaughn, as Jazz is his relaxation therapy, the incorporation of it sounds in his music allows his music to give that same therapy to others. Marcus gives homage to great musicians of the past as he “respects the music of the past and wish to uphold it and not diminish and disregard.”

All this would not be possible without God, as music is God’s gift to Marcus and he’s sharing his gift with the world. Be sure to pick up his EP titled “Marcus” set to release mid September. The album will contain elements of jazz, soul and just beautiful melodies. So to all you out there who dream make those dreams reality, study and learn as much as you can from this music business and DON’T GIVE UP.

Be all that you can be.......

What do you want to be when you grow up?

This is an age old question that is asked of us from the time we are able to piece together our first sentence. And just like DNA, you will always get different results. “I want to be a doctor, I want to be a lawyer, teacher, a basketball player, a singer, actor, dancer, model." Then there always that select few that say "I want to do it all, dance, act, sing, model, design etc." From then on our our parents do all they can to nuture those dreams and aspirations thus pushing them closer into existence. Many do become the lawyer, doctor teach and the select few do it all sing, rap, act, model, design and much more.

The rapper /singer is able to enfuse there art of reaching people with music to now reach them through the big screen. As they now personify someone other than themselves by taking on different characters.

Queen Latifah, LL Cool J, Mos Def and Jennifer Hudson have been able to captivate their audience on the stage as musician yet when they on that big screen they are able to embody the role of the character so well that you forget that these were rappers and singers. They have earned the respect of actors, directors and producers whom have been doing this for years. But, not only have they become actors they have become entrepenuer, starting their own clothing line, they have becoming authors and much more. These rappers/singers have earned their keep and continue to be everything they dreamed they would, thus showing us just what it means to be Ekleqtic.....

Till next time asking your Whats your ingredient.

The Ekleqtic Movement has began: Get on Board and Enjoy the Ride

Langston Hughes

"The instructor said,

Go home and write a page tonight. And let that page come out of you-- Then, it will be true."

You have now entered into the world of ekleqtic. For all those theologians out there, yes the word is spelled eclectic, however I chose to give a word with a unique meaning a unique spelling.

Eclectic = Composed of elements drawn from various sources also meaning Heterogeneous: Diverse ingredients or constituents

This blog serves as an outlet to all those in the arts; whether it is music, writing, dancing, art or acting. Each sector of the arts infuses different elements which make there style unique and appealing to the masses. Many great musicians, artist, writers dancers and thespians such as Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Quincy Jones. Artist: William H. Johnson, Henry Tanner, Writers: Sonya Sanchez, Maya Angelou, Langston Hughes. Dancers: Debbie Allen and Alvin Ailey, Actors; James Earl Jones, Denzel Washington, Phylicia Rashad, the list can goes on and on. They were and are the embodiment of the elemental infusion of there craft. Much of todays artist are who they are today because of the people that came before them. Past styles are now infused within our arts today creating our Eclectic Beings.
